Good intro to FireMonkey but could be more detailed in places

I bought this book as I wanted to really get to grips with FireMonkey and the different way you construct UIs from the VCL model. The book was pretty good at giving a wide overview of what FireMonkey could do and how to do certain things, but after each chapter I did feel like it stopped a little short and needed some further detail. For example, in the section on how to set up style books, I followed the examples and had a play but still wasn't 100% comfortable with it, but the chapter just ran out and I felt it could have gone a bit deeper.It's still good to put a lot of FireMonkey stuff into one place so recommended, but you will end up jumping onto Google to find out more very quickly.

Too long in the tooth to remain relevant.

The book is quite a nice introduction to Firemonkey, however the framework has moved on significantly since it was written.Where as I have many text books that are relevant decades on, Firemonkey Development for iOS and OS X is too focused to retain its value.The author Graeme Chandler has a nice writing style and though some of the work lacks depth, it is a good book targeting people who are new to the technologies, but have some understanding of the underlying languages.Had I reviewed this book when it was published, it would have received four stars. Unfortunately its usefulness is now at an end.

Its OK as an introduction to FireMonkey, but totally out of date for iOS

Its a shame that Delphi doesn't have more up-to-date books. I bought this to get up to speed on Firemonkey and iOS, just to find out that the iOS stuff is totally out of date and the FireMonkey side of things has changed a fair bit since XE2.That said its OK as a FireMonkey intro, but there's no way it should be selling at the price it is, it should be around £15, if that.
