A wonderful piece of literature

I decided to download this (Kindle version) having seen the ballet, on stage and screen, countless times. On its own, the ballet is disjointed and sometimes doesn't make sense (more akin to opera than ballet). On reading this story, all becomes clear.The story is beautifully written/translated, a little dark in places (well, so's the ballet) and totally engaging. It's a short story (it's really a story within a dream within a story) and therefore easily readable in one day (I read it in a morning).I'm 58 and wish I'd read this 50 years ago. This is going on my list of essential reading for every Christmas. I thoroughly recommend it for adults and for young readers alike.
