Ruthless People was one of those free books I downloaded because it was suggested to me on one of those emails you’re sent which list reduced or free books for Amazon kindle. I came across it by chance, but I was glad that I did!I was hooked from the very beginning, where we meet Liam Callahan on the morning he is due to meet his fiancée and future wife Melody Giovanni. Melody is just as ruthless as her future husband and the first meeting between the pair is electric – full of passion, lust and violence. Amazing stuff. The violence was graphicly written but fit with the plot and the characters so it didn’t seem out of place in the slightest.Ruthless People was brilliantly 3-dimensional, with a whole host of incredibly well thought out characters. There was defined character development, especially with regards to how both Liam and Melody felt about their arranged marriage. One of Liam’s sisters-in-law also went through a major period of development.For obvious reasons, I would advise only readers over 16 read Ruthless People as the violence and sex is very graphic.Ruthless People is the kind of book I wish I could write. I would recommend it to fans of Roberta Kray and Martina Cole, as well as readers with an interest in true crime and gangland families. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

This is a dark, sexy and packed mafia novel. Liam heir to the Irish mafia throne must take a wife before he can run the family. An arranged marriage with the cloistered daughter of the Italian mafia don is his future. However the spoilt trophy wife he was expecting turns out to be a shrewd, beautiful and strong woman.They must learn to live and work together to unite their families and destroy their enemies.I loved this book! Filled with action, humour, violence, and family; it kept me very entertained.It is dark in places but that is the nature of the characters. It is balanced slightly by some of the other relatives who don't handle the lifestyle as well. Their reactions made it more believable.I liked the different points of view, almost all of the main characters had their voices heard. The plot was very different from any other mafia novel and I loved the originality of the story.It does end on a slight cliffhanger but it still left me feeling satisfied and like I've read a complete novel. It was more setting up for the rest of the series. I would definitely continue with the series and look for more from this author.

I would love to have given this 5 stars but I feel that I can't justifiably do that :( Yes, I enjoyed the book, very much in fact. It's one of those ones that is all sorts of wrong and has lost it's moral compass from the first page or two. The violence doesn't bother me, and there was a lot of it in here. The cussing and swearing, again doesn't bother me. None of it actually bothered me but I can see why it would others. What you have to remember is that this is fiction and if you don't like what you are reading then stop!There's a lot going on in this book, lots of different dynamics with relationships, some very tough topics and descriptive scenes to get through. The two main characters are not characters that you should like but somehow you do, I didn't fall in love with them but I didn't feel that need to do so, they hooked me enough. I did find them childish at times but meh...I'm childish at times and I'm 40 so I won't hold it against them.I am excited to see another book coming in this series and I for sure will be popping that baby on my TBR. It's my first reading of J.J.McAvoy and I dare say not my last. Enjoyed, even if it was a bit fantastical and they had a thing for blowing s*** up! Recommended if you want to lose yourself for a few hours :)
