Brilliant, better than book 1

The Kingdom picks up a few months after The Restorer and we follow Amelia gray to a new contract she is working on in a small town called Asher Falls. She has been specifically picked to restore the town's cemetery and a mystery benefactor is paying for her work. Of course things never seem to run smoothly for Amelia and soon she is caught up in a decades old mystery. Lots of secrets are revealed and Amelia discovers more than she bargained for.I loved this book. I thought it was much better than the first. Whereas The Restorer was rather slow paced The Kingdom grabbed my attention from page 1 and didn't let go until I had finished. The Graveyard Queen series isn't like other books out there. I really like Ms Stevens writing style and she does a great job at creating a spooky atmosphere. Her descriptions about the South are wonderful and it is really making me want to visit this part of the world.I enjoyed that this book wasn't set in Charleston and we were away from Devlin it gave us a chance to meet new characters...hello Thane Asher....and to get some questions answered that were raised in book 1. Again I couldn't work out the plot. I love it that Ms Stevens can fool me like this.I highly recommend this series but you MUST read them in order otherwise it will not make any sense at all. I am emotionally invested in Amelia Gray and I'm impatiently waiting for the postman to deliver book 3. I am giving The Kingdom 5 spooktastic stars.

Good follow up to The Restorer

I wasn't entirely sold on this series after The Restorer, which I thought was alright, but I'm glad my curiosity led me to this second book I am enjoying it a lot more than the first one. Amanda Stevens has written some beautiful and creepy prose which vividly pull you into the haunted landscape of Asher Falls and the nearby town. So if you are looking for a story which has mystery, submerged grave yards and a creepy mountain-woman lurking in the woods I would recommend this book.

I love this Graveyard Queen series. I can't wait to get back to the book to read more chapters. Although there's nothing new in seeing ghosts, this book is written with an insight and a tension that makes you want to find out how it ends. The next book in the series is The Prophet which I am about to read.
